PIET MONDRIAN
During Mondrian's time, many artists were attempting to create the most abstract art possible. However, none of them could compare to the level which Mondrian had reached. Mondrian's art was the most abstract art ever. In his works, there are no hints at all of anything material; representation is strictly avoided.
Piet Mondrian was born on March 7, 1872 in Amserfoort, the Netherlands. Ironically, Mondrion started his art career as an expressionist. The screnery and calm landscapes of his home were the subjects of his many early paintings. However, his style began to change when he movied to Paris in 1912. He started to form a cubist-influenced style. Eventually, his work was comprimised mostly of small vertical and horizontal lines. In 1917, he and Dutch painter Theo van Doesburg founded a famous art magazine called "De Stijl." At this point in his life, he decided to gather all of his theories and beliefs under an art style called "neoplasticism." During his lifetime, Mondrian made about 250 abstract works. He died in New York on February 1st, 1944. His last completed painting was Broadway Boogie Woogie.
