In the reading Inside Cuba’s DIY Internet Revolution, I thought it was very interesting and quite shocking to learn that not every country has good internet connectivity like our country, not even for the rich. I was not aware that the capitalism in Cuba was so in charge of everything in their citizens lives that they wouldn’t legally allow for wide, good quality internet access. It is also interesting to see how far Cubans would go to get American media - that it is so important to them that they will wait very long and patiently to get that media. I thought the intro to the article was very akin to something you might see from an American menial - like we are deprived cocaine addicts until we get our internet fix. Something that is quite upsetting and alarming however is that the cubans aren’t using the internet to try to improve their way of living, to cause change and reform in their country by informing outsiders of their way of life. Instead they use it to really only consume American tv shows and media. In my opinion, they could be doing so much more with the internet.
