For my beautiful/ugly search, I scrolled through instagram until I found two photos back-to-back of which I deemed one ugly. I did this because in my mind, something can never be called ugly unless it is compared to something else the observer finds "beautiful." If seen on its own, an "ugly" image may be considered by another beautiful. Of the two images I selected, I (more or less obviously) deemed the photo of the maintains and lake beautiful and the photo of the people, dog, and camera stabilizer ugly. But only because they were compared. If I had seen the photo of the people on its own, I may very well have just thought it was a cute picture of poeple on a hike over Los Angeles
