Cheryl Yang was born and raised in Riverside as the youngest of two daughters. In 2006, she graduated first in her high school class and continued on to pursue her BA in Design | Media Arts at UCLA. After a fullfilling two years and two quarters at UCLA she graduated in Winter of 2009.

Yang's style is often characterized as being very poetic and romantic because of its soft and mild nature. In much of her work, she attempts to exhibit a cross between simplicity and beauty with a twist of elegance. She is especially fascinated with textures and emotional ties that people have with their possessions and relationships.

One of her recent works, "Security Blanket" is a photographic examination of the concept of the security blanket and its implications about humanity. It is a personally emotional piece for her, as it deals a lot with her own vulnerability.
