Weekly 2

The portion of Frank Chimero’s essay that
I found really interesting was the bit
near the end comparing the current state
of the web to a wilderness that had been
paved over and turned into a suburb
(like the Joni Mitchell song). I often
bemoan predatory capitalistic practices,
but the web contains some pretty pernicious
selling tactics that I tend to ignore (like
infinite scroll, gathering customer data
through Alexa, etc.). I don’t really
remember the internet before it was a
capital-driven hellscape, and I’m not
hopeful what with recent attacks on Net
Neutrality but I would like to see it
become the enlightened wild-west landscape
that Chimero says it can become.
