My project is not for or based on a real community, but a speculative future/science fiction, so I was initially unsure whether I could employ any of these tactics in my development of this website. But my project obviously doesn't exist in a vacuum. It's informed by experiences within the LGBT community.

In imagining a fictional community that lacks gender, and exploring how that community expresses itself and views existing human culture and its gender expression and relationships, I can better explore how to make content and spaces that don't assume gender binary and heteronormativity.

I'm excited about the implications and the possibilities of this exercise, but I also realize that, of course, not all people in the LGBT community share my experience. I feel like it may be a bit of a cop-out to say this is just a personal project reflective of my own experiences, but realistically that will be the form it takes. In the future, I'd like to work with others on a project like this so that I can offer more vantage points than just my own.
