Weekly 7: Data Visualization

The "Millions of women and family planning" has a very calming and simple color scheme, which goes together with their light use of typography as well. The interactive portion of hovering over the white lines was helpful as it gave you percentages and not going into full data about that percentage unless it was clicked on. I think that using a circle is appropriate with the topic of contraceptives, because we think of pills and injections which resemble such shape and form. I also really enjoyed that the timeline on the bottom has a play function, which allows the user to see a visual change throughout the data every 5 years like a slideshow.

The "Gender gap in workforce" has a very similar rule of aesthetic in terms of simple and clean. They also follow the same interactive style of hovering over the white lines and feeding us information if they are clicked on. I thought this one was the most visually interesting because they organized their data in a compelling yet simple pattern style. Initially I thought it looked like a DNA, which could correspond as their inspiration since the topic is focused on gender.
