weekly 3: surveillance

I chose to read the article "Social Networking as Peer Surveillance" by Ashe Dryden. I've been talking about surveillance and the panopticon in one of my other classes in terms of perpetuation of gender norms, so it was interesting to see it applied to another topic. Here are my two questions:

  1. How much of what we put online is for us versus for other people (either explicitly or implicitly)?
  2. How guilty are you of participating in the surveillance of your peers?
