Design Justice

The Design Justice articles inform my 3rd project in this class by making me think more in depth about the actual content of my website. While the goal of my website is to learn more Spanish language and culture and to be able to share useful knowledge and curated information with my peers, it is true that there are many websites that already facilitate learning through Spanish flashcards and online notes. In the Design Justice articles, the author notes that you should observe which design solutions are already working well, and consider them in your process. I know that sites such as Evernote.com and Quizlet.com already do a fantastic job of providing flashcards and shareable, online notes, so I have chosen to take my project in a different direction. I want to make the experience of learning these things more image-based, as I, like many other creatives, am a visual learner. I want to build upon the concepts of the websites that are already doing these things well.

Additionally, the Design Justice articles say to consider your work’s social impact. I think this is very important when relating it to my concept for Project 3 because I am attempting to understand and represent digitally a country that I have never been to, and with a culture that I have not been a part of. The best that I can do in this regard is to make sure I am gathering information from credible sources, like people that are from Spain, or reside in Spain.
