El Cotixan Mexican & Seafood

This is El Cotixan, or “El Co”.

El Cotixan storefront

My whole life I had called it El Cotixan, but all the kids in my high school started calling it El Co so it caught on with me too. This was where everyone would go when they ditched school, people would drive to El Co and pick up like 8 burritos to share with all of their friends before racing back to school before the lunch bell rang. It is open 24/7 so my friends and I used to go on midnight burrito runs to this place, lots of high school memories.

El Cotixan's delicious hot sauce

What El Co is really known for is their hot sauce. People always rave about their orange hot sauce (it is the spiciest one) and no burrito or nachos are complete without it. You could put that hot sauce on anything and it’d taste good. When I first got to UCLA I was missing San Diego so I brought some of their orange hot sauce to school to put on my food. It was even good on UCLA pizza (don’t judge me until you try it).

Nachos at El Cotixan

Although many people would order the Lunch Burrito because it was the cheapest, I liked to share these carne asada nachos with my friends. We would often pick up these nachos and take them to the beach to eat them.

Mady, Alex, and I at El Cotixan

Here is a picture of Mady, Alex, and I eating at El Co in 2016. Mady is from San Fransico so this was her first time having San Diego Mexican food. She still drives down to eat there from time to time.
