Maritza's Mexican Food Restaurant

This is Maritza’s. It has been around for as long as I can remember, and it is very close to my house so I have many memories of eating here as a child.

Maritza's Storefront

It doesn’t look like much from the outside but, in my opinion, it is one of the best Mexican restaurants in San Diego. It is not as widely known as the other restaurants on this site because of its location in the middle of a residential area, but it is still very popular and is always busy around dinner time. I even have the restaurant’s phone number memorized haha.

Carmen, the owner of Maritza's Mexican Restaurant

This is Carmen. She runs Maritza’s and is always working at the cash register. She is Maritza’s daughter and they actually just opened up a second restaurant called “Carmen’s” but nonetheless, Carmen still works at Maritza’s. She is the sweetest woman and she even recognizes my mom’s voice when she makes an order over the phone since we eat there so often.

Best rolled tacos ever!

One of the reasons I like Maritza’s so much is because of their guacamole. It is the perfect amount of spicy and it is always the right consistency. At some Mexican restaurants, they dilute their guacamole with sour cream since avocados can be expensive, but not Maritza’s. Maritza’s is the real deal and they don’t skimp on the guac. Everything they sell is delicious but my favorite things to order are their rolled tacos (not taquitos, people in San Diego call them rolled tacos), bean cheese rice burrito, and their bean sopes.

PRO TIP: If you go to Maritza's, bring cash because it is a cash-only restaurant. Also, they are closed on Sundays.
