Weekly 5

Find an API that you find interesting for any reason and describe what you or others might build with it. What information does it make available? What can you do with it? What are the politics in the API you’ve chosen?

There's a company called Lob that has various APIs for making it easier to mail things out on a massive, automated scale. You can send out specific postcard designs to specific addressees, track those, cancel them, and view analytics for those mail campaigns. In terms of politics, it does cost $$ if you're planning to use the tools on a larger scale, but there are free options for artists to play with, so it's still pretty accessible! Their "Legal" section is mostly in Normal Capitalization, but the #8 Limitation of Liability is in ALL CAPS, which I thought was pretty funny. Basically, they deny liability for any damages that come from using data or software from Lob.

Honestly, the first thing I thought of when I looked at their website was "troll WBC members and Trump supporters and climate change deniers" by sending them specific postcards.

Some functions of Lob: Lob has a service that will automatically check that addresses are correct and verify that they are mappable, provides a list of integrations with Lob, send checks/postcards/letters and schedule/track/cancel them.
