WEEK 3

REFLECTION

I think that Nick Douglas’s article, “ It’s Supposed to Look Like Shit: The Internet Ugly Aesthetic” addresses a part of the Internet that I never really analyzed before. However I think that he addresses a very specific type of “art” that occurs on the internet that gets its aesthetic from the fact that it is being created by amateurs or people who are not well versed in creating digital art. I think this can be contrasted with and Frank Chimero’s, “What Screens Want.” When I compare the two I don’t look at Chimero’s article I think that his website in general shows you the difference between web design that is done by someone who has extensive knowledge of the internet versus what Douglas’s article talks about. I think when contrasting these two articles we can ask, who is making certain Internet art? What is the goal of meme art? Does aesthetic play a role in meme art?
