At one point this style of photograph was aesthetically pleasing and many albums and T-Shirts had this type of design, but now it is only aesthetic because of its "ugliness". It's absurd but so many artists have reverted back to this style especially in the hip-hop genre. Personally ugly can be very beautiful, but there can also be ugly that is really not aesthetically pleasing.
In contrast, this photo I believe is "pretty" not only in the overall aesthetic of my instagram feed, but also because it has other elements that others are really attracted to. The 35mm film look is very big now, and especially with the light leak. Pretty is subjective to all, so you can't really define it, but there are overall trends that have more of a consensus.
