WEEKLY #4

ultimately, while reading this essay, the thing that i was most struck by was this relationship between the performer and the viewer. also, just the very fact that ice poseidon is considered a "performer," not a content creator, or a video maker, but a performer. at the end of the day, the power dynamic between the performer and the viewer is something to be wary of- ice poseidon's life is heavily dictated by the wants of his viewers, so much so that he is continually put in harmful situations that threaten his quality of life YET he continues on because his income is solely based off of his audience engagement. when i reached the point in the article in which he explained that his relationship with his girlfriend ended due to unending harrassment from his viewers regarding the relationship, i was stunned at how deeply the influence of his audience dictates his real life. our culture is so saturated with content, and this voyeuristic relationship that many have with the people they view is something that i continue to question and grow concerned about.
