DESIGN JUSTICE READINGS

Design justice as a creative philosophy is a step forward. The two documents at first glance are a bit idealistic in the tone of the writing, but there are many gems to be had within them. I guess design is inherently idealistic anyway but I’ll always question before subscribing to any manifesto. There was one point in the 10 Ways Designers Can Support Social Justice post that stuck with me: “Shape alternative futures.” I believe this is the ultimate goal in design’s quest to better the world. Politicians are subject to human error and governments fail the people time and time again. While art acts on the fringes of accessibility, design’s public palpability gives it a more promising potential. For my final project, I will emphasize this objective of shaping alternative futures by deconstructing the past while also trying to cohesively merge art and design in the web space.
