This is NOT Weekly 3

For this third Weekly I took a trip through instagram searching for an "ugly" post and a "beautiful" post. It turned out harder than I thought to critique which posts are ugly and beautiful. I think I spend too much time accepting that the photos are good becuase they're in my feed in the first place. I realize I should be more critical about what's in my post than let myself be influenced by instagram, and instgram style.

The Ugly Picture

Photo of Me

This was the ugly picture I chose, not becuase I didn't like the picture but because the ugliness is intentionally held. I believe the artist, Phillip Rugo, intended for it to be an ugly grungy picture. Not only that but the braces seen on the dirty teeth reflect the connotation associated with braces. In our society bearing braces is uncool and ugly.

The Beautiful Picture

Photo of Me

I chose this picture as the “beautiful picture” for the sense of symmetry, simplicity, and sense of pattern. I believe the mind appreciates symmetrical things and repeating patterns. The squiggles in this painting are a refreshment from the straight edge design and ridged black of our modern day.
