Both articles The Facebook Bully and Batman, Pandaman, and the Blind Man talked about how online communities were oppressed in social media platforms and how they subsequently responded. Both showed examples of social media memes and campaigns as powerful methods of protest and subversion against the oppressors. Some methods, such as spreading of uniquely hashtagged content, is now a prevalent way to expand a message across social media. However, it was eye-opening to see in the second article how creative and cryptic memes can get and how memes can serve such a greater purpose beyond mere superficial amusement.
