Weekly 6

In this article, the author explored about Cuba’s DIY internet. Because of the government limitation, the public cannot enjoy fast and efficient Internet or WIFI which is incredible to Western people. From where I came from, China, there are sort of similarities of the Internet with the Cuba people’s situation. There is the so-called “Wall” built up by the government which blocks most of the information from foreign countries. The public can only see what the government wishes to show us. Of course People in China will not comply with the government easily, just as Cuba people wouldn’t do so. Some of the people set up companies to DIY VPNs for people to go over the “Wall” so that people can get onto Facebook, Twitter or Youtube. Still most of the VPNs are very slow and have many bugs, so people are improving them all the time. I think China and Cuba are two examples of what people will do under the restrictions of the government. When free will is limited, wisdom and intelligence are stimulated.
