The simple act of adding a news email everytime the US hits the world news section of Times added endless amounts of distratction. I often found harmless trips to my inbox stole 20-30 minutes of my day. I also found that having a way to track the time I spent working put into perspective how much time I spend working. Awareness of this quantifiable data seemed to make me more focused and on track.
