In After Effects: Choose File Project Settings... Under Time Display Style, Select Frames, this is easier to view than timecode.
Choose Edit->Templates->Output Module Input TIFF_sequence under Settings Name Select Edit... Select Format: Tiff Sequence Select Format Options... Select LZW Compression Click OK Change Movie Default: to Tiff_sequence Click OK
Choose Composition->New Composition Input a resolution such as: Width Height 512 x 512 Select Square Pixels Set the Frame Rate to 30 fps frames per second Set Start Frame to 1 (not 0) Set Duration to 150 (5 seconds) or longer of course
Choose File->Import->File... to bring in images or movies If the file is an animation sequence, check TIFF Sequence If the file has no 000 padding check Force Alphabetical order If the file has an alpha channel, an Interpret Footage window will pop up Try Premultiplied - Matted With Color (You can always change this setting later using File->Interpret Footage Main)
Drag the image file icon from the Project Window into the Comp Window you just made.
Render a TIFF Sequence Choose Composition->Add to Render Queue Make a new folder for the TIFFs by clicking on Output To: Save a File Name Make sure it is formatted like this for Maya name.[####].tif Both periods are very important!!! Make sure to put 4 digits for the padding and no space in the name. Select Render
In Maya: Apply the animation to a Maya texture
Set up your Maya options for animation: Use Windows->Settings/Preferences->Preferences Choose the Time Slider section Set Framerate: 30 fps Set Playback start/end between 1 and whatever length you prefer. Set Animation start/end between 1 and whatever length you prefer. Set Playback speed: 30 fps x 1 (It may skip frames to play the correct speed) Click Save
Shader Windows->Rendering Editors->Hypershade Select or create a shader Click the Map Button across from Color, or whatever you want to map. Click File Filter Type Off Choose an image from where your TIFF images are located. Check Use Image Sequence
