Zbrush starts in 2.5D Draw mode.
Hide the big shelf menu Click Hide in upper right corner
Sculpt a Primitive Upper right Tool menu: Hold down on a primitive to bring up a quickpick menu. Select a sphere. Click the Make PolyMesh3D button Drag to draw the primitive sphere in your scene. (This is not scaling it, this is moving a camera.)
Click the Edit button in order to edit the 3D model. (Short cut hit T.)
You can immediately start painting to sculpt the geometry. Press Shift to switch brush to smooth, try sculpting.
Use Zadd or Zsub to push or pull, (upper middle of screen).
Hit the first Brush button on the left to switch brushes.
Camera Move the camera around by dragging the background. Hold down the Alt key to switch between rotate and drag etc. Try switching between Frame, Move, Scale, Rotate buttons on the right.
Grid Press Floor just above the camera move tools on the right.
Paint textures Only Select a base material from left side
Turn off Zadd and Zsub buttons near top center Turn on RGB
Tool menu on the right select Polypaint->Colorize
Select a color or 2 from the left
Start painting Try switching brushes, strokes button on the left, second one down.
Bake the Texture You must do this to get the texture into Maya. Select Texture Map right Tool menu Select Create->New from Polypaint
Export to Maya In Zbrush Zplugin->FBX ExportImport default Select Export Select Snormals for smooth surface
Import to Maya In Maya select: File->Import... Hit 6 to see the texture
Export to Zbrush In Maya Choose your object(s) File->Export Selection-> Select Files of type: FBX Select Edit preset... Under FBX File Format downgrade to Version FBX 2014/2015
(If FBX exporter is not available in Maya for export do this: Windows->Settings/Ppreferences->Plug-in Manager Find fbxmaya.mll put a checkmark next to Loaded and Auto load)
In Zbrush Select Import from menu on the right column, or use the Zplugin->FBX ExportImport
Undo Use Ctrl z or the Undo History scrubber to go back to an earlier iteration.
CLEAR THE SCREEN TO DELETE Turn off Edit Mode Ctrl n to clear the screen. (This only works in Draw Mode.)
START a NEW DOCUMENT Use Document->New Document
Initialize ZBrush to set menus to default Preferences->Init Zbrush

Add Divisions if you need to Add more geometry to the poly mesh if you want: Select Geometry in the right Tool menu Hit Divide Use sparingly increases render time etc.
Bake the Texture Select Texture Map right Tool menu Select Create->New from Polypaint
Import into Maya In Maya, hit 6 to see the color map Open the HyperShade window to look at the material. Turn the Ambient Color to black.
Render Turn off Color Management: Select Windows->Settings/Preferences->Preferences Select Color Management Uncheck Enable Color Management Select Save

Change Rendering Using to Maya Software
Click on the background of the perspective camera view to make it active.
Click on the render in new window button located at the top of the screen.
