D | MA 21 Book Cover | Fall 2007 | 8" x 11.5"

Typography class (25) with Lucas has arguably been the best class I've taken at UCLA. Its only other competition is this class (161A), and the only reason why this class doesn't win is because I already knew much about HTML and CSS, so it wasn't as enlightening as it could have been had I not been taught Web design by Myspace before. 25, on the other hand, was an epiphany of knowledge. From then on everything is judged as pre-enlightenment and post-enlightenment; it had such a tremendous impact on me.

Our assignment for 25 was to design book covers every week, for Bret Easton Ellis' book American Psycho. We started off with using as less design as possible and worked our way up to using color and full-on images. One of my better examples from that class is this piece here, because it is a good example of good layout, use of color, imagery, and variety in design, in my opinion.
