Part of the increasing surveillance network is caused by technological advancement. Smaller, more affordable surveillance devices for a wider variety of applications are now available to the consumer market.

Part of the reason why we have become so accustomed to them is because due to technological advancements, surveillance equipment has become less apparent in many situations. The three main things we look for in the appearance of a video camera are (1) an enclosure, (2) a lens or lens looking surface, and (3) a blinking red LED (usually reserved for home recording equipment, as surveillance equipment becomes stealthier).
