WEEKLIE 2

Think You Can Live Offline Without Being Tracked?

by Sarah Kessler

This article was morbid, but real. As I was reading this article I expected the worse, and I wasn't disappointed. In order to live offline without being tracked you would have to be a hermit but you would still be tracked in some way. Stay inside to avoid any streetlight cameras, wear sunglasses to avoid anyone capturing your eye, avoid any friendships because through friends another third-party source can track you. Buying groceries. Even if you pay cash it would still be inpossible. It's inevitable. It makes you feel like you're in a rut. You know what you're doing is bad and potentially harmful, yet we still do it to ourselves, why? Because we cannot avoid being online. Everything is online and everyone online is tracked.

The Male Gazed

by Kate Losse

The image capture my attention for this article. Being born and bred from the Silicon Valley, Facebook and all the other tech companies surround my life. But after reading this article, I have never portrayed tech companies as a space for white men to gaze at women. Instagram. Twitter. Facebook. A way for people to display their private lives out on public, or sometimes a way for men to surveillance women. Afterall, accorinding to the article women have a greater presence online. Being a woman, this article hit me personally and frankly terrified me. My mom and family are probably the reason why someone will figure out where I am and stalk me. They post EVERYTHING online. I try to refrain from posting anything personal of mine that I do not want in the open because I don't want some stranger to find me.
