In parallel to pursing her dream of being a top runner, Monique Henderson is earning her degree at UCLA. She has set the standard for student-athletes across the United States in high school and in college showing that education is a key element in paving the way for the future of our young women, whether being a professional in their field of study or in their sport. Monique believes in the development of all young women in sports. She plans to created a foundation called the Henderson Foundation - Young Women in Sports. This foundation will support the achievements of high school girls that wish to do a sport of their choice while attending an accredited university. Monique has opted to support all women sports, not just track and field in the near future.

The foundation will offer scholarships in the amount of $5000. Girls who wish to apply will send an address envelope with the following contents: application form (available as an Acrobat PDF form), an official transcript from high school, an essay of 500 words or less about what sports means to them, and list of 5 college choices. Scholarships will be given to those that meet all requirements. Five patrons will be chosen to receive an award. Each student-athlete will be personally chosen by Monique and a committee. All scholarship awards will be presented at a banquet that gives tribute to the chosen patrons for their continuous strides toward excellence in school and sports. Contributions to the foundation will be available to interested people.
