Reach for the Sky

"Reach for the Sky" is a project I did for a class where the objective was to stretch a photograph. I took this picture at the Oakland Zoo. To get the stretched effect, I had to hand-develop the film three times exactly the same way- same exposure time to light, same dodging and burning in the same places. Then I cut the three photographs up into thin horizontal strips and rearranged back together to get this effect. The reason I chose to use a giraffe is because they already have long bodies. After stretching, they become even taller and give off a feeling of surrealism.
