WE ARE SILHOUETTES
MAY 2007

I use to be a vegetarian (mostly for environmental reasons). I wanted to create something about this with visuals.

WE ARE SILHOUETTES is a 2" x 2" book with silhouettes of different kinds of life (plants and animals). For the first part of the book there is a size comparison of the silhouettes ending in human silhouettes. On the LEFT pages are comparable real life sizes and on the RIGHT page is a close up of the life represented if it is too small (ie mushrooms). The middle of the book has cut outs of ideas for a more comprehensive book that has infographics presenting environment/health related food facts. The back of the book has a couple of larger fold out silhouettes for 'fun'.

Silhouettes and size comparison were chosen as an easy way to compare all life. It is simple, yet with the complexity of the subject and the flow of presentation, it is compelling.

The title reinforces the connection of everything. The acronym is WAS, the antithesis of the piece. WAS is both pessimistic and optimistic in that people can change to make sure there is no WAS.

The book is small because life is precious in a way. You easily hold it in your hand.
